My name is Rachel Yenter, and for much of my career, I’ve worked as a dental assistant. I
enjoyed the role, but I found myself yearning for a deeper, more comprehensive way to
contribute to patient care. Unfortunately, circumstances changed when I became
unemployed. With my previous position no longer available, I knew I needed to pivot my
career path to something more fulfilling.
I had always been passionate about patient care and the personal connections that come
with it. My dream was to become a registered nurse—a role that would allow me to build
upon my skills and make a broader impact in healthcare. To achieve this, I sought out
training programs that could help me transition into this new career.
That’s when I learned about the WorkSource Oregon program through a classmate. They
mentioned Tina Willis from Equus and how she could provide financial assistance to help
with educational costs. This piqued my interest, as I was eager to find a way to continue my
education without incurring significant debt.
I was incredibly fortunate to benefit from the ARPA funding offered through the program.
Tina Willis explained that this funding was specifically designed to eliminate barriers to
completing educational goals and to support students like me in achieving their nursing
degrees. This was a game-changer for me.
The ARPA training program was an incredible experience. I learned not just about nursing
techniques and patient care, but also about navigating the educational system and
understanding how to manage my time effectively. The most remarkable aspect of the
ARPA program was the financial support it provided. I was initially worried about the
potential need to take out a loan, which would have been a significant burden for my family.
Thanks to the ARPA funding, I was able to complete my training without that added
financial strain.
Now, I’m thrilled to be working at CMH in Astoria in the surgical department. The skills and
knowledge I gained during my two years of training have equipped me to work full-time with
benefits, which has been a tremendous help for my family.
The impact of the ARPA program on my life has been profound. It not only allowed me to
pursue my dream but also opened doors I hadn’t imagined. I’ve been so inspired by the
support I received that I’ve shared Tina’s information with others, hoping to help them
discover the same opportunities.
Looking to the future, I plan to continue growing in the medical field. My ultimate goal is to
one day become an instructor, to guide and mentor others who are where I once was. I
wholeheartedly recommend this program to anyone seeking a career change or looking for
support in their educational journey. It’s been a transformative experience, and I’m excited
about the bright future that lies ahead.
