We work to create education and vocational opportunities that change lives and strengthen communities. In addition to providing WIOA services through WorkSource Oregon providers, NOW also administers funds for direct support to youth in short-term certificate programs, internships, and career exploration experiences in partnership with area CTE programs, community colleges, local businesses, and county-wide internship cohort programs.
Thanks to a grant from the Higher Education Coordinating Commission under the Oregon Youth Employment Program (OYEP), awarded in 2022, NOW is expanding access to vital workforce development resources. This funding allows us to support young individuals across key regional industries, including healthcare, manufacturing, and the maritime sector.
Covering the cost of short-term certificate programs, including essential materials and equipment.
Enabling paid opportunities for youth to gain hands-on, real-world experience while earning short-term wages.
Our youth-focused initiatives help ensure no young person is left behind. This support targets students who may have stepped away from school or lost momentum toward high school completion. We help them rediscover their potential and achieve their educational and career goals by eliminating financial barriers.
Eligible youth are those ages 14-24 who are enrolled or seeking to enroll in training, programs, or work experience within these industry areas. OYEP funds also provide limited wraparound support for assistance with the basic, immediate, and logistical needs of students during their education and training.
Students are recommended to our program by local high schools, the local college, or by word of mouth. After our Success Coach meets with the students, they fill out a short two-page form to be eligible.
This program serves youth in partnership with area community colleges, K12 districts, local businesses, culturally specific community community-based organizations (CBOs), action teams, county juvenile departments, county commissioners, area economic development organizations and others.
